Rise of the Ashen Crown
Oh My Gods!: Ashardalon
Ashardalon is one of the most terrifying and despicable beings in history, being one of only a few dragons to have made it past the purge. Almost all of these wyrms survived through guile, cowardice, or pure ruthlessness. Ashsardalon fell into the latter
His story is one that would be tragic had a different course of actions taken place. Ashardalon was once a great and powerful red dragon, a champion of his kind in the war against the demon hordes from the south. He was noble (as red dragons go) and righteous. But centuries of battle against the seemingly endless hordes of the Abyss began to wear at him. Nobility turned to arrogance, righteousness to wrath.
There came a time when Ashardalon led his hordes out onto the field of battle, his hordes being mostly the children he himself had sired. They faced a demon lord and his mighty hosts, a balor named Zargonis whom had carved out his own little piece of hell, setting himself up as a demon prince there. The battle raged fiercely for days, the demon prince Zargonis and the great wyrm Ashardalon trading blows. Finally, the death knell came.
Ashardalon struck down the demon, but not before the demon dealt a mortal blow, tearing into the dragon’s chest and cutting out half of his heart. Ashardalon stand above his foe, bleeding out and dying as Zargonis laughed, knowing that with his death, his energy would be returned to the Abyss to reform, while Ashardalon would die.
That was when arrogance and desperation took over. Ashardalon reached into his own chest and tore out the remains of his heart. Then in a terrifying display of power, he grabbed Zargonis and bound the demon into his chest in lieu of his heart, using his own elemental energy to bind the demon. And in that moment, an abomination was born.
The evil that had been festering beneath the surface for Ashardalon exploded forth full bore, corrupting the dragon and his bloodline. His kin were infused with demonic power and overwhelmed the abyssal host, causing a full route. But the dragon elders were not pleased, least of all Io.
In his arrogance, Ashardalon challenged Io for his spot on the Arkhosian council. Io defeated Ashardalon and used the demonic essence within the dragon to banish him from Larasia. So know the great dragon lurks in the chaos, seeking a way to return and wreak havoc once again, to prove his dominance and supremacy. And if not over Io, then over Io’s killer.
Ashardalon is in a unique position; he is a patron for those who wish to bind an infernal pact, and is also the scion of the dragon magic bloodline. Indeed, a number of free Dragonborn claim to be able to trace their lineage back to Ashardalon; and often they have the fiendish powers to show for it. But most disturbing is that Ashardalon has the ability to grant dragon sorcerer by making a bloodbond with a humanoid creature; a creature that often is already bound to him in other ways.
Below are some feats that dragon magic sorcerers, infernal pack warlocks, and dragonborn can take:
Pre: Dragonborn, breath weapon (fire)
Benefit: You may choose to slide each target hit
by your breath weapon attack 1 square.
Benefit: When bloodied, you gain a +1 bonus on damage
as well as the normal benefit from your dragonborn fury
Pre: Sorcerer, Dragon Magic source
Benefit: While you are bloodied, you gain a +1
on your damage rolls.
Further, any sorcerer attack power that has a
special effect for having the Dragon Magic

Infernal Dragon’s Might
Pre: Warlock, infernal pact

gained from warlock powers or class features, you
deal +1 damage. If the target is cursed, you deal
an additional +2 damage instead.
Pre: warlock’s curse, sorcerer, resist fire
Benefit: As long as a target is subject to your
warlock’s curse, it gains vulnerability to fire
equal to your fire resistance value.
Disciple of Ashardalon
Prerequisite: Sorcerer and Warlock
Certain followers of Ashardalon actually follow the path of their dark patron, master, or god to its ultimate conclusion; with the binding of a demon in the stead of their own heart. This ritual transforms the demon (often bound against its will) into pure abyssal essence, which then replaces the subjects normal heart, lungs, or other vital organ. This allows the power (and potentially the evil) of the demon to seep into its target, giving him great power, at the minor cost of his humanity.
Ashardalon’s Action (11th): When you spend an action point and use that action to make an attack, you may pull every creature with 5 squares 1 square.
Demonheart (11th): You have the power of a demonic entity sustaining you. This entity imparts you strength and makes you more resilient to certain types of attack, but drawing on its power makes you vulnerable to influence from it.
You may make a save at the start of your turn for any effects that a save can end. However, if you take this save, at the start of your next turn you are subject to the following attack:
Attack: Your Level -2 vs Will
Effect: You are dominated until the end of this turn.
If you the attack is successful then the demon inside of you takes control briefly (and you are controlled by the GM). The Demon will not do anything that will harm you directly, as you are its host, but will likely do its best to inconvenience you or wreak havoc on innocents. However, the enslaved nature of the demon means it will never aid you, unless failing to do so would result in its (and your) immediate death.
Hellfire Breath Rebuke(16th): When you are first bloodied in an encounter you regain the use of your Ashardalon’s Breath encounter power.
